HD DVD Copy Protection Hacked
The HD DVD format has been hailed by its makers and supporters that it will be a revolution in anti-piracy, having unbreakable copy protection called AACS encoded into each disc. But this has been circumvented by hackers who have made copies of HD-DVD films for the first time.
However, last month a video was posted on the internet by a hacker who claims that it shows a HD-DVD being copied onto their computer, they used legal software for watching DVDs on PCs to obtain the anti-piracy key and then proceeded to copy the DVD files to their hard disk. Watch the vid from YouTube: HD-DVD uses exactly the same copy protection as the Sony Blu-ray discs, Blu-ray has an option for an additional layer of protection but it is not widely used on discs yet.
