Review: Scarface - The World is Yours (PS2)

Scarface: The World is Yours screenshot As long as you have no moral objection to running around slaughtering people and selling cocaine then it is a good game. Although it plays similary to the Grand Theft Auto series, that is not a bad thing.

The combat & shooting missions are very good, much better than GTA, with a nice weapon selection; the "Say Hello To My Little Friend" gun, and a lovely punchy shotgun. Taunt people while you kill them to fill your 'Balls' meter,Scarface in-game screenshot then you can activate the 'Rage' mode, a first person, unlimited ammo rampage for when theres lots of people to kill. Theres also some hand-to-hand combat in some missions and when a coke deal goes wrong.

They have rendered the locations from the film well, have a fight out at the very recognisable mansion and the Babylon club.

Scarface game cover
"They thought you were dead, but Tony Montana don't die so easy. Sosa took everything you had. Now you've got nothing, but that never stopped you before. You're back with a vengeance, ready to reclaim your turf and rebuild your empire. All you've got are your balls and your word."

Great dialogue will have you laughing and imitating Tony Montana as you play along and gun people down. Nice cheesy music reminiscent of the 1980's Scarface movie, really sets the scene well and gets you involved in the story. The intimidate, fast-talk a cop and sell coke bits, where you have to hit a button when the meter is full are a little tricky and a bit random sometimes but you get the hang of it eventually.

Nice touches over the GTA games are the extra 'staff' that you can control, starting with a chauffeur who turns up with a car whenever you call and eventually you get an assassin, enforcer and others, another nice touch is that you can't just walk around holding a gun like GTA and all the police know exactly who you are - Tony Montana.

Scarface in-game screenshot Overall an impressive game, plays very well and is good fun and easy to get the hang of for the early missions but then gets pretty hard.
