A look at the PlayStation 3
The PlayStation 3 is the most eagerly awaited console for a long time, Sony has put together a console with outstanding features, it really shows that it has had an extra year of development over the Xbox 360. Many of the key features of the PS3 are notably lacking in the Xbox 360, such as high definition DVD, motion sensitive 'tilt' controllers and free online gaming all included in the box.
Here is a quick look at the PlayStation 3 features:
A Blu-ray high definition DVD player and HDMI output to connect to a HD TV is included in both models of the PS3, which enhances its usability as a media centre and while the console is fairly expensive for a gaming machine, for a high definition DVD player it is reletively cheap. The Blu-ray players led to problems, Sony had trouble getting the blue diode laser parts to mass produce the Blu-ray drive for the console which led to the delay of the PS3's release in Europe.
Motion sensitive wireless controllers have been developed, they look just like the old PS2 dual-shock controller but the vibration mechanics have been replaced with motion tilt sensors to give you extra control over your gaming. Early on in the development Sony designed a 'boomerang' style controller, but this was abandoned in favour of an old favourite design.Everyone that buys a PS3 gets free access (with an internet connection) to the online PlayStation Network, where you can play & chat with other gamers & download updates for your games. Also you can download full games to play such as Lemmings among other classics. An Ethernet port is included on both models, with the 60GB model having wireless networking capability for the online connection.
Six USB Ports. Enabling connection of a huge array of devices, including the ability to connect a keyboard for chatting on the PlayStation Network. The 60GB model of the PS3 has a memory card reader that accepts Compact Flash or SD cards and memory sticks, used mainly for saving games on a traditional PS2-style removable memory card. Sony have done themselves proud with the PlayStation 3, it appears to be an incredible machine, not only for gaming, but as a media centre for home entertainment and will for many be their first experience of high definition dvd & gaming. The European release of the console is on the 23rd March 2007 - Read more.. Email this story to a friend ![]() Add this link to: |
