Features: Honda's Asimo robot

Honda have been developing their bi-ped & humanoid robot since the 1980's. Their first Experimental Model 0 (E0) bi-ped robot took it's first steps in 1986, subsequently 6 more bi-ped robots were made until 1993 when Honda unveiled their first humanoid robot with arms, the P1. After that, P2 and P3 were made, gradually refining their design until Asimo was produced in 2000, and continues to improve year after year.

E0 was Honda's first walking two-legged robot.

E4, E5 & E6 achieved fast, stable walking on uneven surfaces, slopes and steps.

P2 the world's first self-regulating, humanoid walking robot.
P3 was 5'2" tall and weighed 286 lb (130 kg).

Honda's earlier robots were all quite large, they originally intended making a robot as big as a human, but they realised that it was easier to balance a smaller being, and due to advnancements in technology around 2000 they were able to produce a smaller robot, and Asimo was born, unveiled in Japan in 2000.

Asimo first went to America on Feb. 14, 2002, when it rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. Picture >>
