Extreme Modding: Making a Wii laptop
I am sure that this is a case of 'just because he can', rather than it being a particularly good idea.
Nevertheless it is rather interesting to read through this How-To guide to transforming your beloved Wii into a portable laptop-style unit, by making a new case and attaching a small TFT screen on hinges on the top. It looks good, well made, but the guy seemed to have some big industrial machinery handy, and a lot of know-how using them. The little 7" screen could probably do with being a bit bigger - it doesn't even fit the size of the base unit, a significantly larger screen could be easily accommodated I'm sure. It does look a bit small for playing games on using a Wiimote that needs a bit of space for movement, even though you can use the Wiimote at about a foot distance. Also it would still need to be plugged in to mains power - so it will never be any use on the move or travelling by car/train/etc. Video of Wii Laptop in action: Brilliant case-modification though, just shows what can be done with a little thought & some tools.
